Two arrested for armed robbery

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Delportshoop, Northern Cape.

It was alleged the suspects aged 20 and 26 entered a tuck shop owned by a foreign national and pointed a firearm at the owner on Mandoy at about 10.30am, police said.

They made off with an undisclosed amount of money, airtime vouchers and two cellphones.

Immediately after the incident, police were reportedly alerted, and descriptions of the suspects were given to them.

Police found the suspects hiding in a bush.

All stolen items were recovered.

It was also established the weapon used in the robbery was a gas pistol, police said.

Both suspects are expected to appear in the Barkly West Magistrates’ Court tomorrow on a charge of armed robbery.

On Friday, a man was injured and remains under police guard in hospital after allegedly trying to rob a delivery vehicle in Meadowlands Zone Two, Soweto.

“It is alleged that three armed suspects alighted from a white microbus and approached a delivery truck containing cellphones and lap-tops,” Constable Sibusiso Chauke said.

When the driver got out to make the delivery, the armed men approached a security van accompanying the delivery van, added Chauke.

As one of the men struggled to cock his firearm, the security guards fired shots and wounded one of the would-be robbers.
