Two arrested for dagga possession

Two men have been arrested for possession of dagga and attempting to bribe police officers in Tarlton, Krugersdoorp, in Gauteng.

Police spokesperson Lucky Matome said Tarlton police officers were patrolling on the R24 when they stopped and searched a white bakkie, Krugersdorp News reported.

Matome added police found a bag full of dagga with a street value of R1 000, and they then arrested the driver and the passenger on the spot.

“As if that was not enough, they then offered the police officers R400 in cash not to arrest them, but their plan did not work. They were charged with bribery as well,” said Matome.

The police confiscated the dagga.

Both men will make a brief appearance in the Krugersdorp Magistrates’ Court soon.

In a separate incident, two police officers arrested for corruption and possession of dagga were granted R2 000 bail each when they appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court in Cape Town last month.

Sergeant Donovan Pope (39), who is attached to Faure Public Order Policing (POP), and Constable Craig Jodamus (29), a crime prevention official at Grassypark Police Station in the Western Cape, were arrested after they allegedly received a R200 bribe from the suspect they had arrested and hiding 20 dagga plants they had seized from the same suspect in Wynberg, Cape Town.
