VIDEO: Car jammer steals valuables from vehicle

On the footage captured on Monday, a vehicle is seen next to the victim’s vehicle, which was parked in front of the school, Alberton Record reported.

The suspect is seen coming out of a bakkie, disappearing from the camera’s view before returning to the victim’s vehicle. He opens the backseat door, takes a bag and walks away brazenly.

“I suspect that it is the work of a car jammer, as I am almost certain that I locked my vehicle before I went into the school,” said the victim.

“I am not sure how this thief knew about my property. It could be that he saw it as I was collecting my children’s bags from the boot,” he added.

The victim realised his laptops, iPad, ID and wallet with all of his cards were missing when he got to the office and thought he might have left it at home.

“What is really shocking is to know that these criminals are among us and our children. We as parents need to be more vigilant,” he said.

Investigations are ongoing.

In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested after they allegedly robbed a woman at an ATM and were found in possession of jamming devices in March.

Monitor Net spokesperson Hannes Laage said a woman withdrew money from an ATM at the Sasol service station at about 5.17pm. While at the ATM, two men took her money and some of her possessions.

The suspects fled the scene, but the attendants at the Sasol garage pressed their panic button and Monitor Net responded, Laage added.

“The description of the suspects was relayed to our responding officer. At about 5.45pm, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted at the corner of Rooihuiskraal and Bothrel roads. They were eventually forced off the road on the corner of Rietspruit and Samrand roads and arrested,” Laage said.
