Protect your wheels: Tips to secure your rims and tyres

Are your tyres and rims the next target in theft?

Have you noticed properties in your neighbourhood with low or no walls and sprawling lawns leading right up to the front door? While it may seem picturesque, it’s more common than you think for homes to lack proper perimeter protection.

Fidelity ADT has issued a warning to Gauteng residents regarding a concerning trend. Criminals are targeting vulnerable properties and stealing tyres and rims from cars parked in yards.

Charnel Hattingh, group head of marketing and communications for Fidelity ADT, warns: “Within the Fidelity ADT footprint, there’s a growing trend where suspects steal tyres from cars parked in yards during the night. The suspects sneak in, remove the tyres, throw them over the wall and leave.”

These suspects are highly skilled and operate silently. They often scout the area during the day, sometimes resorting to poisoning dogs, before returning later to carry out their theft. Hattingh emphasises that this is not a random act and urges residents not to become complacent about their perimeter security.
