South African Alfa Romeo enthusiasts make Italian pilgrimage

A group of dedicated Alfa Romeo fans from the Alfa Romeo Owners Association of South Africa recently embarked on a once-in-a-lifetime journey to Italy, the birthplace of their beloved brand.

Celebrating the 70th anniversary of the iconic Giulietta, the Alfa Romeo Owners Association of South Africa (Aroasa) contingent attended the Real Alfa event at the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese. This pilgrimage was a culmination of a passion that ignited with a 2004 tour marking the Giulietta’s 50th anniversary.

The trip included visits to legendary design houses like Pininfarina and Italdesign, and the Stellantis Heritage Hub, where a vast collection of automotive treasures resides. A highlight was the Balocco Proving Grounds, the birthplace of many iconic Alfa Romeo models.

The Alfa Romeo Museum was a dream come true for the enthusiasts, showcasing the brand’s rich history through a stunning collection of cars, prototypes and racing machines. The group was privileged to access the museum’s ‘storage lockers’, revealing a hidden world of extraordinary vehicles.

South Africa’s contribution to the Alfa Romeo story was acknowledged, with the country’s Alfa Romeo clubs featured prominently in the museum. The Aroasa members were active participants in the Giulietta 70th celebrations, showcasing the South African Alfa Romeo spirit.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio, a standout model renowned for its dynamic performance and Italian flair, was the perfect vehicle for this unforgettable journey.
