Pop sensation Filipa Carmo da Silver You Tube ‘s video has won the RyanSeacrest.com international internet competition search for the best One Direction cover of their smash hit, Story of My Life.

The former Cornwall Hill College pupil, is busy working on her first original single which will be released next month.

Sharing more on how she entered the competition, Filipa said she uploaded a music video for her cover version of One Direction’s ‘Story Of My Life’ onto YouTube and Ryan Seacrest’s production team flagged it (people will remember Ryan Seacrest as the extraordinary host of American Idol).

“Winning this competition has been the highlight of my career so far and to have the support from the media and public both in South Africa and overseas has been mind blowing,” said Filipa.

Filipa is no stranger to showcasing her talents and, from an early age, has known that the arts is an avenue she had wanted to pursue. From opera to musical theatre, from rock to pop, Filipa’s vast knowledge and appreciation of music of all genres has assisted her in setting the foundation to what is certain to become a budding career in music.

“For a teenage girl, Filipa has many accolades under her belt including obtaining a Grade 8 Certificate (with distinction) in Vocal Performance from the Rock School at Trinity College in London. Aside from various achievements in Eisteddfods and 4 Gold Medals in the South African Talent Championships (SATCH), Filipa performed with poise and confidence to no fewer than 30,000 people at a friendly Portugal-Mozambique football match during the FIFA World Cup 2010. Acting is another passion for Filipa and after completing a Summer Course in Acting for Film at the New York Film Academy, she took up the offer of a small part in the British television series ‘Strike Back’,” said her manager, Tim Hill in a statement.

Hill added that Filipa will be releasing her first original single sometime in March, then pursuing her career as a performing artist whilst at the same time studying performing arts in Cape Town at the Waterfront Theatre School.
