Video footage captured during an apparent road rage incident in Faerie Glen, Pretoria where a metro police officer’s firearm was taken by three men, has emerged.
The incident occured at an intersection near Glen Village Shopping Centre in Faerie Glen on Saturday, Rekord East reported.
One of the victims, Andre Otto, posted the video on Facebook showing the three men surrounding a white car.
After a few seconds of what seemed like an aggressive deliberation, one of the suspects is seen walking around the car, pointing a firearm to its occupants.
Garsfontein police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said these events appeared to have been sparked by an earlier road rage altercation at a traffic circle.
The victim told police he was blocked in by a car after stopping at a traffic light.
“Three men came out and surrounded him. One of the men inside the blocked car was a traffic officer. There was a struggle between him and the three men and they robbed him of his firearm before firing shots in the air,” added Miller.
He said the three men then returned back into their car and fled down Solomon Mahlangu Drive.
Miller said police were alerted and the men were chased down to Old Bronkhorstspruit Road where they were arrested.
The suspects will appear in court soon for possession of unlicensed firearm and common robbery.
Miller advised motorists to avoid road rage altercations. Instead note details of the car involved and to report it to police. We are also appealing to the person who posted the footage to contact the investigating officer, Detective Constable Xaba on 072 726 0897.
In a separate incident, an alleged road rage incident was caught on video when a woman was captured confronting men in the streets of Johannesburg, last year.
The video, posted on YouTube by MosChannel, shows a woman engaging in a heated argument with four men on the street.
The woman is seen shouting and pushing some of the men who look like they are trying to contain the situation.
During all of this, the woman goes to her car, takes out a knob-kierrie and seemingly threatens to use it on the men.
