A Centurion man was arrested for murder after he shot dead an intruder trying to break into his house in the early hours of Friday, Centurion Rekord reports.

According to police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto, two men were apparently trying to break down a steel gate at a home in Erasmia, Pretoria.

“[The home owner] however fired shots. One suspect was shot and fatally wounded and the other fled on foot and is still at large.”

Police responded to the incident to find the intruder lying in a pool of blood with a torch and a knife next to his body. The items were confiscated by police.

The home owner was arrested on the spot and his firearm was seized.

“He is charged with murder. We appeal to the public for information that could lead to the arrest of the second suspect to contact their nearest police station,” Moloto said.
