Scores of tenants were left out in the cold after they were evacuated when two flats caught fire in Arcadia, Pretoria on Tuesday.

Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said this happened on Troye Street between Hamilton and Leyds streets, Rekord East reported.

He said the fire started in one flat, and spread to the flat next door, he said.

“No one was injured. Everyone was evacuated.”

He said the emergency services were investigating the cause of the fire.

“It’s the winter months. It could have been caused by a candle,” added Pieterse.
