Pretoria police are on the hunt for a man who escaped arrest after robbing a KFC outlet in Centurion with two accomplices earlier this week.

Three armed men entered the outlet on Ruimte Road in Wierda Park at about 8pm on Monday, police spokesperson Captain Agnes Huma said.

“They held the workers up at gunpoint and asked to be shown the safe,” Huma told Rekord Centurion.

Huma said the men robbed the staff after they failed to cut the safe open with a grinder.

“They took cellphones and cash. We can’t confirm yet how much.”

She said police responded to the call for help and arrived while the robbery was in progress.

“A man escaped through the window. Two suspects jumped into their getaway vehicle, a silver Toyota Avanza and sped off.”

With the help of the community policing forums (CPF), they were chased down and caught in Eldoraigne on the corner of Saxby and Frederick streets.

“Police found one firearm with the serial number filed off. The employees’ cellphones and the stolen cash were also found,” added Huma.

She said an inspection of the getaway vehicle uncovered that it had a fake number plate, and an investigation was now underway to determine if the car had been reported stolen.

A case of business robbery was being investigated.
