WATCH: Driver shoots himself at road rage squabble in KZN

His hand has been 'partially amputated'.

Following the heated squabble that took place yesterday about a fast-lane change that took place under a bridge on the M13 freeway between Gillits and Hillcrest‚ heading up Fields Hill, a video has emerged on Facebook from Security Force showing the drivers fighting.

Andreas Mathios‚ the Blue Security media liaison who was on the scene shortly after the incident‚ said that eyewitnesses reported the driver of the truck realised he wouldn’t fit under the arched bridge so moved over to the right-hand lane.

According to Hillcrest police communications officer Constable Ndumiso Manqele, “Police responded to a road rage incident involving the drivers of a Ford Ranger and a truck at noon. The truck driver told police the argument started when he swerved the truck to get onto the fast lane.

“The Ford Ranger driver started swearing at him. Both of them jumped out of their vehicles and, after a few minutes the Ford Ranger driver went back to his car, drew out a 9mm pistol and pointed it at the truck driver. The truck driver grabbed the hand of the man holding the gun, twisted the man’s hand holding the gun and he accidentally shot himself,” said Manqele.

According to TimesLive, Michelle Smith‚ medical director at Meditech Emergency Response said: “The man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his left hand. It appears it was a partial amputation. He was transported to hospital in a serious but stable condition‚” she said.

A case of attempted murder and pointing a firearm was to be opened with Hillcrest police.
