Holding off a late charge from the touring Australian side, who were forced to take their powerplay in the final quarter, they clinched a narrow victory to draw the two-match series 1-1.
“You have to adapt or die in this game, and we were able to do that tonight, changing our strategy as we needed,” said SA coach Elize Kotze.
“Our aim in Auckland is to play with high intensity for the full 24 minutes of every game.
“We’ll leave a week before the tournament to accilimatise and we’ll play warm-up matches against Jamaica, England and Australia, so I’m confident we’ll be ready.”
Kotze confirmed she would announce the national squad on Saturday for the annual five-a side tournament which features the top six-ranked teams in the world.
