Former Netball SA director of coaching Benny Saayman has been appointed head coach of the Proteas team, the national federation confirmed on Tuesday.

Saayman replaces former coach Elize Kotze, who stepped down from the post last week for personal reasons, and NSA said she would be backed by former SA captains Elsje Jordaan and Martha Mosoahle, who were both named as assistant coaches.

All three individuals were appointed on seven-month contracts, in order to carry the team to the Netball World Cup in Sydney in August.

“We had a frank discussion with Ms Saayman to ensure that she and her assistants work as a team,” NSA president Mimi Mthethwa said in a statement.

“We are happy with how she sees their roles as individual coaches.

“She was given the opportunity to suggest who she thinks would add value to her game plan and she identified the two assistants.”
