Australian Richie Porte, riding for Team Sky, won the 152km leg after dropping the rest of the peloton up the final climb to Willunga Hill.

Impey, representing local outfit Orica-GreenEdge, dropped three positions in the general classification, 38 seconds behind Australian race leader Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) who held a two-second advantage over Porte.

The last of six legs in the World Tour race, a 90km ride in Adelaide on Sunday, will suit the sprinters in the field, giving Impey a chance to climb back up the final standings.
