Impey, representing local team Orica-GreenEdge, took fifth place in a bunch sprint on the 90km final stage in Adelaide, won by Dutch rider Wouter Wippert (Drapac Professional Cycling) in 1:56:09.

He ended a respectable seventh in the general classification, 35 seconds behind overall victor Rohan Dennis (BMC Racing) of Australia.

In the sprinters’ division, Impey secured 55 points to finish 16 points clear of second-placed Italian Niccolo Bonifazio (Lampre-Merida).

The South African led his trade outfit to sixth place in the team standings, which was won by the Movistar squad.
