National trials champion Precious Mashele and training partner Stephen Mokoka would spearhead the men’s squad for the biennial showpiece, Athletics SA announced, with 41-year-old Shadrack Hoff also getting the nod.
The senior men’s team, without middle-distance specialist Elroy Gelant who made himself unavailable, will attempt to secure the country’s first ever medal at the cross country spectacle.
Marathon runner Nolene Conrad, who coasted to a comfortable victory at the SA trials in Kagiso last month, would lead the senior women’s team, along with rising star Annie Bothma and in-form Lebo Phalula.
The junior teams would compete at the Southern Region Cross Country Championships in Malawi on February 22, the national federation confirmed, while all four age groups would turn out at the global championships on March 28.
