South African star Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio capped an impressive domestic campaign on Friday, successfully defending her elite road race title at the African Road Cycling Championships in Wartburg, KwaZulu-Natal.

Compatriot Lise Olivier grabbed the silver medal and Ethiopian Hadnet Kidane pocketed bronze after the trio were involved in a breakaway. Moolman-Pasio went unbeaten during a spectacular eight-day period, bagging five gold medals in total at the national and continental championship events, after the SA spectacle was held in Mbombela last week.

“It was very hot out there but we rode really well as a team,” she said after her final race of the championships.  “Lise did a great job in setting things up. She went in the early breakaway with Hadnet Kidane.
“Heidi (Dalton) and An-li (Kachelhoffer) also did a great job in controlling things.”
