Fisher was announced in the top job on Tuesday, replacing former CMA general manager Chris Bruwer who stepped down in October after a year at the helm. The previous head of corporate marketing at Barloworld, Fisher played a key role in rebranding the professional cycling outfit which assisted in achieving international success on the UCI World Tour.

“I am delighted to be joining the Comrades Marathon team,” he said.

“This is an iconic brand and I intend to not only retain the ethos and traditions that are synonymous with the event but to steer the brand on a global trajectory to give effect to more eyes on the sport.”

The 90th edition of the annual ultra-marathon, an ‘up’ run between Durban and Pietermaritzburg, will be held on May 31.
