Olympic gold medallist Alistair Brownlee of Great Britain, returning from injury, charged clear of Spanish world champion Javier Gomez with a little more than one kilometre remaining to win in 1:39:20.

Murray was 20 seconds behind Brownlee, after fading in the closing stages.

Great Britain’s Vicky Holland also bounced back from injury to bag her first series victory in the elite women’s race on Saturday, and Mari Rabie was the first SA woman home in 25th position.
