GTA: San Andreas going mobile

Seven years ago, if somebody had said to me that we’d be able to play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on a mobile phone, I would have probably had them committed to a loony bin.

At the time, San Andreas was melting PC hardware all over the planet, and it was pushing the PlayStation 2 to the limit. Now, we’ll be able to play the game (a graphically superior version to boot) on a cell phone.

Rockstar has announced that 2004’s GTA: San Andreas is heading to “selected” iOS, Android, Kindle and Windows Phone devices. The mobile version of the game will feature “newly remastered graphics including dynamic and detailed shadows, greater draw distance, an enriched color palette” as well as “enhanced character and car models”. Furthermore, Rockstar has reworked the control scheme in order to give players multiple options for controlling CJ and vehicles. There will also be support for controllers.

You can expect GTA: San Andreas to hit mobile platforms sometime next month. Rockstar will release a list of compatible devices in due course; we’ll update this post once they do.
