A petrol station in Silver Lakes, in the east of Pretoria, was bombed twice when an armed gang robbed the convenient store in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Engen’s manager Madeleine Riekert said five men entered the convenient store, wearing balaclavas and gloves around 00:45, Rekord East reported.

She said the men took R48 000 from the cash handling device and an undisclosed amount of money from the ATM.

“They fled in a white Mercedes Benz. No one else was injured,” she said.

Riekert said a case was opened at the Boschkop police station.

This after five armed suspects entered a petrol station on Putfontein Road in Benoni and threatened staff members.

The staff members ran behind a fridge at the back of the shop and hid. After a few minutes, they heard an explosion, police said.

The robbers fled with an undisclosed amount of money. No shots were fired and no one was injured.
