A woman was arrested for trying to scam two banks in Centurion on Wednesday, Erasmia police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said yesterday.

It is alleged the 57-year-old woman, pictured, was found in possession of fraudulent documents by security officials when she tried to apply for a R70 000 loan at Capitec Bank in Hennopspark.

“When the bank officials were verifying her documents, they discovered the payslip did not belong to her. When she was questioned by the officials, she could not provide satisfactory answers,” Moloto said.

Investigations revealed that the same woman had been to the Diepsloot Capitec Bank earlier that day, where she also tried to apply for a loan. The application was declined.

“That led her to go to Hennopspark, where she was arrested.” Moloto said it was believed the woman was not operating alone as she told police she was in the company of three other people.

“Those people left her when they realised she was caught.” The woman will appear in court soon.
