Police have arrested 304 people during a crime combatting initiative in the Tshwane North cluster at the weekend.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the perpetrators were detained for several crimes such as rape, hijackings, attempted murder, possession of suspected stolen vehicle, warrants of arrest, arson and undocumented foreign nationals.

“Ga-Rankuwa police are still searching for four suspects for an apparent business robbery that took place on Saturday at Pep Store at Ga-Rankuwa Shopping Complex.”

Two of the four were armed and allegedly stormed into the store, surprising staff and customers. The security officer who came to collect cash was held hostage while the robbers disarmed him of his firearm. They then demanded he lie down.

“The security guard and the store manager were robbed of their safe keys. The suspects helped themselves to an undisclosed amount of cash from the safe.”

Several shots were fired in the air before the robbers fled in a white Audi A4 with registration number VTC 385 GP.

“No one was fortunately hurt. Anyone with information leading to the arrest should contact their nearest police.”
