School children were left traumatised when an armed man ran into the Pretoria Muslim Trust Sunni School in Laudium in an attempt to flee police.
Police spokesperson Constable Tumisang Moloto said the chase came after police followed a tip-off of three suspicious men roaming the streets on Tuesday morning.
“When they saw the police, they ran in different directions. One of the suspects ran into the Muslim school, where he was arrested,” he said.
According to a source who wished to remain anonymous, the school children were left traumatised after witnessing the police chase.
“The children were scared and parents rushed to the school after they found out from social media what was happening. They were traumatised as they witnessed the chase,” he said.
Moloto said a shotgun was recovered and seized, but two of the three men fled.
“They are still at large. We appeal to the public or any person with information to come forward and assist.”
The area has been hit by a spate of armed robberies lately, with two robbers being victims of mob justice at the weekend following a robbery in the neighbouring area Erasmia.
Last Friday, a 40-year-old Erasmia resident was laid to rest after he was shot dead in his home by four armed robbers.
