A Metrorail train was engulfed in flames in Dooringkloof, Centurion on Wednesday afternoon after it was allegedly torched by commuters.
Metrorail spokesperson Lillian Mofokeng said the cause of the fire was still to be investigated.
“Right now we are trying to understand what happened and to ensure passengers are kept safe. We don’t know the full details yet,” she told The Citizen.
Lyttelton Community Policing Forum Sector 2.4 chairperson Chris Fourie said a coach was allegedly torched and passengers were evacuated.
“It is not yet clear if anyone was injured. The fire brigade are on scene,” he said.
Tshwane emergency services spokesperson Johan Pieterse said they were attempting to stop the fire from spreading.
“We are busy extinguishing.”
