Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale said the woman was approached by two men on the R55, who proceeded to hold her at gunpoint on Monday night, Rekord Centurion reported.
“They ordered her to move to the passenger seat,” Mogale added.
The woman told police the hijackers fled, abandoning her and her BMW in Tembisa, on Gauteng’s East Rand when they saw a police car.
“The Olievenhoutbosch police are investigating,” Mogale said.
Last month, video footage showing a group of suspects hijacking and subsequently abducting a motorist on a driveway in Gauteng emerged.
In the video, a sedan is seen pulling into a driveway before single passenger gets out of the vehicle. Another vehicle pulls up behind them on the street, and three suspects armed with what looks like an assault rifle get out of the car and approach the sedan. The suspects then drag the driver of the sedan out and force him into the backseat before driving away while the passenger manages to escape.
According to the timestamp on the footage, the incident took place on February 26 this year.
