Spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said the body was found handcuffed on a plot in Jakkalasdans by a cattle herder, Rekord East reported.
“The deceased’s body was handcuffed and burnt very badly, however, the face could still be recognised,” she said.
She said the man was aged between 40 and 45.
Moganedi could not confirm the details surrounding the death but said murder case had been opened.
Anyone who might have information on the man or his family is urged to contact the investigating officer, Warrant Officer July Maseko on 082 696 7667 or Moganedi on 079 695 1388.
In July, a group of cow herdsmen stumbled upon the burnt body of a man near a railway line in Phoenix, KwaZulu Natal.
KZN VIP security spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the visibly traumatised herdsmen stopped a passing security vehicle when they found the body.
Members of KZN VIP and police were summoned to the location, where members assisted in cordoning off the crime scene.
“It is alleged the deceased, believed to be in his early 20s, could have been a vagrant. It appeared as if the unidentified body was burnt and left to decompose. Police are investigating further,” he added.
