Two men were killed in an horrific accident on the N1 highway on Sunday morning aat about 8am, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.
He said the driver lost control of the car near the Buccleuch interchange in Sandton, Centurion Rekord reported.
“Their car rolled and its side hit a pole.”
He said both men were trapped in the car and had to be extricated.
The 21-year-old Swazi driver was found dead on the scene, Botha said.
The passenger had life-threatening injuries.
“Firemen worked tirelessly to extricate the deceased using the jaws of life while medics worked fervently to resuscitate the critically wounded man.”
He said despite efforts, the man succumbed to his injuries.
“What caused the accident remains a subject for the police investigation.
No other cars were involved in the accident,” he said.
In a separate incident, a man was killed on Sunday morning when his bakkie left the road and rolled off the N12, 15km outside of Potchefstroom, North West paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics received the call shortly after 7am, and on arrival on the scene found a bakkie some distance off to the side of the road.
“On assessment, paramedics found the lifeless body of the driver lying five metres from his vehicle. Unfortunately the man has sustained fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and he was declared dead on scene.”
It was understood that the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll multiple times. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations, Meiring said.
