1/2: We advise members of the public to avoid all processed meat products that r sold as ready-to-eat. While we know that polony is definitely implicated, there's a risk of cross-contamination of other ready-to-eat processed meat products, either @ production, distribution/retail pic.twitter.com/thCuxjGnT1

2/2: This is because #Listeria on the exterior casing (packaging) of polony can be transferred to other products it comes into contact with, including viennas, russians, frankfurters, other sausages, and other ‘cold meat’ products that are typically not cooked before eating. pic.twitter.com/GRkbexU6g9

Pick n Pay released a statement saying that they acted immediately to withdraw all products from the manufacturing sites identified by the Department of Health.
We are removing products that may be linked to the #listeriosis outbreak from our stores. Customers who bought any Enterprise product (incl Bokkie, Renown, Lifestyle, Mieliekip), or any Rainbow ready-to-eat products eg. Polony or Russians can return the product for a full refund.

Pick n Pay said: ”We are urgently withdrawing them from our stores. In addition, all ready-to-eat products such as polony and russian sausages manufactured at the Rainbow facility in Sasolburg are also being withdrawn.”
Woolworths South Africa also released a statement: “We proactively manage food safety but as an added precaution, given the Dept of Health’s announcement on the source of the listeriosis outbreak, we’re recalling some viennas and cold meats.”
