Blood shortage affects surgeries
The South African National Blood Service is pleading with the public to donate blood.

Blood supplies in South Africa are dipping dangerously low, resulting in the postponement of crucial surgical operations in many hospitals across KZN.
The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) is pleading with the public to donate blood.
To assist the cause Netcare Alberlito Hospital will host a blood clinic on Friday, January 24 in the second floor foyer from 10.30am until 2.30pm.
Nursing services manager Grace Makumbi urged the public to join them, saying that when you donate blood, you give a second chance and gift of life to someone known or unknown to you.
“Group ‘O’ type blood is used in emergency cases and for paediatrics, as it is compatible with every blood group and is the best blood to use in many cases for a newborn. One does not know who will need a blood transfusion tomorrow. It could be you, your friend or someone dear to you.”
“Our country is experiencing a major blood shortage. Let us join together and help those who need us.”
SANBS also hosts a blood donation clinic at Ballito Library on the second Tuesday of every month.
