Nine-hour planned power outage coming to KwaDukuza’s Ward 22 on Tuesday

The KwaDukuza municipality says the power has to be turned off so urgent tree trimming and maintenance can be done safely.

Residents of KwaDukuza’s Ward 22 must brace themselves for another day with no electricity on Tuesday, February 4.

Most of the ward, including Brettenwood, Elaleni, Dunkirk, New Salt Rock City, Sheffield Manor, Gardens and Hills, Melinda Lane and the Taffeni area towards Tanglewood, will be turned off from 8am-5pm.

This is to facilitate tree trimming and urgent electrical maintenance from the KwaDukuza municipality, which is intended to address the ongoing electricity outages in the area.

Residents of Ward 22 have had a terrible start to 2025 in terms of electricity supply.

A 75-hour blackout three weeks ago was compounded by a 36-hour outage last week, aside from shorter supply issues which have happened almost daily.

The return of loadshedding over the weekend made the situation worse still.

Nevertheless, it is hoped that tomorrow’s intervention will help the ward in the long run.

Ward 22 councillor Privi Makhan urged residents to make necessary preparations in advance.
