Marshall Security Feature

A lot can happen in 15 years, kids become adults (or they think they do anyway), people march to make change happen (and it works) and global pandemics teach us to smile with our eyes, while showing us the safest place to be is ‘home’. We agree with this line of thinking, although assistance is also often required for maximum security, but we’ll get to that later.

Indeed, the world moves at an alarming (let’s just call that subliminal word usage) pace and the amount of wonderful, weird and crazy things that goes down over time often get forgotten. That’s why it’s always fun to do a little retrospective – especially because it’s hard to know how far you’ve come if you never consider where it all began. So we took the opportunity to do just that as we considered our 15th birthday.

We are proud of our journey that took us from our big dreams and small garage office to where we are today with our head of operations in Blackburn Road, complete with state of the art Control Room and 140 employees, there to serve and protect your community (looking at you Durban North) and yours (North Coast) and yours too (Morningside).

We always knew we wanted to make a difference, but we wanted to do things differently too. Let’s be honest, private security companies pop up all over the place these days, we however wanted to be more human in our approach than anyone else; accessible, warm, calm and kind, and yes, these are all really awesome adjectives, which ultimately and collectively mean that we wanted you to trust us (the us that run this company, as much as the ‘us’ that respond to your panic or take your call), and know that we had your back. The following are a few things that helped us achieve just this.

  1. SOT. Our special operations team, which was formed in 2007 is run by our own managers and directors, with a big focus on investigations. Not content to sit behind desks and wield pens they lead by example, ready and able to respond quickly in cases of emergency. This is an added value service and it comes standard at Marshall Security.
  2. IN CASE OF ANYTHING.We have a number that you can call; you guessed it, In Case of Anything.

  1. ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). We were the first private security company in KZN to buy into this innovative technology. These cameras are erected in area/community hotspots and the number plate of every vehicle that passes one is captured and relayed to our Emergency Contact Centre, in real time where it is automatically checked against both our own and the SAPS Sought Vehicle Database.Suspicious vehicles are immediately flagged and Armed Response vehicles are dispatched to their last known location.

Then there is the extensive list of our services featuring the usual suspects:

Armed response (we have an act first, call second approach to this – which means we are already on our way before our control room makes contact after an activation), Alarm monitoring, Guarding, Street patrols, CCTV cameras, Automation, Cell Panic, GPS Panic APP, Electric fencing, Alarm installations and a Centralized control room all ready to roll out at a moments notice.

OKAY, BUT WHAT MAKES IT 15 YEARS OF ‘AWESOME’?

To celebrate our birthday we wanted to highlight some of the big growth points on our timeline, stuff like this:

2006 we opened our doors and introduced our first street patrol, now we have 35.

2009 our first reaction vehicle hit the streets. We now have 43 vehicles in our fleet.

2010 we introduced our In Case of Anything number. Really answering (see what we did there) that claim that we are accessible, human and ready to help.

But we also wanted to pause and reflect and celebrate some of the Marshall moments that have helped define us too. On reflection, these ‘moments’ ranged from the intense and action packed, to the more soft and warm. This is because at the end of it all, just like we mentioned earlier, we are a human company driven by a human need to help and to protect and to connect. We will leap into action for the woman that is highjacked, but also for the puppy stuck in a pipe and the community that needs a clean up. These are what make us Marshall. These are the moments that shape us. These are the ways we are proud to serve. Our first 15 years have brought us this! Risk yes, but so much reward too, in the form of the people helped and safety provided. We can’t wait to see what happens when we are fully grown.
