Investigation underway into Chris Hani Road armed robbery

The armed response officer who died at the scene had walked into an armed robbery in progress and sustained multiple gunshot wounds from the robbers.

THE armed response officer who was shot in a robbery on Chris Hani Road had just commenced employment at Marshall Security.

Sivuyile Madikizela, who was on duty at the time, was shot multiple times on Friday evening after he entered a local supermarket where a robbery was in progress.

“Unbeknown to him, the store was being robbed by armed suspects. Startled by Officer Madikizela’s unexpected arrival in his Marshall Security uniform, the suspects opened fire, fatally wounding him,” said Marshall Security spokesperson Tyron Powell.

“Marshall Security’s Special Operations Team and Netcare 911 were immediately dispatched to the scene. Despite valiant efforts by Netcare 911 paramedics, Officer Madikizela was declared deceased shortly after their arrival,” said Powell.

He added that the loss of Madikizela had left a huge void in the team.

“He was so passionate about his new role and was eager to join the Marshall family. He was enthusiastic about his work. Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues. We are committed to finding justice for Officer Madikizela and will cooperate with Greenwood SAPS during their investigation,” said Powell.
