UJ and Wits unite under #feesmustfall banner

JOBURG – UJ and Wits University have come together in solidarity of the protest #Feesmustfall

UJ and Wits University students have united in their protest against the fees increment that has seen multiple universities shut down in the past week. Students took their protest to the streets of Braamfontein singing songs while blocking Jorissen and Bertha streets which came to a standstill. A student from the University of Johannesburg said that it only made sense for UJ and Wits students to unite, as their fight was the same. She added that she did not understand why the fees had to increase on a yearly basis.

“We are paying too much and this must stop. We all want a good education but the [fees] are too high,” she said. Some students headed back to the universities to recruit more students to make their way to Luthuli House in the Joburg CBD where they said they would hand over a memorandum.

A smaller group has blocked Jorissen and Bertha. Students are shouting insults at the police.
