He highlighted that neglecting the maintenance of substations can lead to significant risks, including increased theft and the establishment of makeshift sleeping areas for displaced individuals. “The recent incidents at the Cornelius substation serve as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that arise when these facilities are not properly cared for.
“Criminals view poorly maintained substations as safe havens, often going unnoticed by residents.” This situation underscores the importance of regular upkeep and vigilance in safeguarding these critical infrastructure points.

To combat vandalism and ensure the safety of substations, Beagle Watch has implemented a series of measures. “Regular cleaning is a key component, along with the use of sophisticated software that facilitates automated patrols. By listing substations as ‘free sites’ within their system, Beagle Watch can randomly schedule patrols to monitor these areas effectively.
“Our system automatically generates patrols based on a programmed schedule, ensuring that we maintain a consistent presence at these substations.” This approach not only helps to deter criminal activity but also fosters a sense of community safety and awareness.
As they improve their efforts to protect substations, Aiton stresses the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities and supporting maintenance initiatives. “By working together, residents can help ensure that these vital facilities remain secure and functional for the benefit of the entire community.”
