Factory falls victim to veld fire

The windy conditions had firefighters worried, as they feared the fire could easily spread and quickly get out of control

Wood in a factory in Circle Road caught alight due to a veld fire just after midday on Friday.
The fire department was quick to respond and quickly had the blaze under control, making sure the flames did not spread to other parts of the factory.

The windy conditions on Friday afternoon had firefighters worried, as they feared  the fire could easily have spread and quickly gotten out of control. Bearing this in mind, the firefighters contained the fire in the area where the factory stores its off-cut wood products.
The flames were extinguished in less than an hour, and the cooling down process took about four hours.  The owner of the factory was surprised at the speed with which the fire spread through the premises.

“You can never underestimate the power of nature,” he exclaimed. Public Safety advises factory owners to maintain good housekeeping so that in the event of a fire, the flames can be contained, making the job of firefighters much easier when they arrive. It is also advised that the perimeter of the premises not have any combustible materials lying around, making it less likely that a veld fire will start.
The owner of the factory thanked the firefighters for their efficiency.
