Andile Cleopas Makhowana is a living example that with hard work and positive attitude, no challenge is insurmountable.

He was born on April 13, 1994 (just few days before the historic first democratic elections) at Loskop, Ngonyameni Area.

Both his parents are deceased and he is being looked after by his older sister as his grandmother has also passed away.

Andile is a Grade 12 learner at Mpumelelo High School in Loskop (Othukela District).

Against all odds, Andile’s academic achievements have been consistent throughout his high school years – topping his grades as well as his participation in extramural activities.

In 2011, whilst he was in Grade 11, Nestlé applied for him to the African Leadership Academy where he was one of the 4 000 applicants from 42 African countries and made it to the last 100.

He got a scholarship of R540 000 to study at Cambrigde University doing A-Levels so that he gets a chance of a scholarship oversees to study for the degree of his choice.

Andile has participated in the school’s debating team, represented the school in the Moot Court, represented the province in a Science Fair in Cape Town as well as the school in the Science Olympiad.

In 2012, he used his own funds to help fundraise for the 2012 grade 12 farewell, fundraising R 2 000 on his own.
