Traffic violations infuriate driver
"Everyone in this town is a law unto themselves. There is no police presence, no order, no law, it’s disgusting."
Double-parking, off-loading illegally, no regard for the road rules…these are some of the matters that frustrated a local resident last Friday.
Minutes after experiencing another traffic violation, she visited the Estcourt News and still visibly upset, relayed her frustrations.
“I spotted a truck off-loading at a liquor store in Connor Street and this is not a loading zone. I took photos of this and when the owner saw me doing this, he started taking photographs of me! Connor Street is a mess already, with most motorists driving into oncoming traffic because they do not want their cars to get dirty,” she commented.
Relating a similar incident, the resident said that she was blocked into a parking space by a double-parked vehicle, this was in Harding Street close to the Shoprite loading area.
“Everyone in this town is a law unto themselves. There is no police presence, no order, no law, it’s disgusting. What are the public servants being paid for? To sit and drink coffee?” the resident vented.
She asked what measures were taken by traffic officers after a letter in this newspaper called on the traffic department to make their presence felt.
The resident’s concerns were communicated to Umtshezi Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko but no response was available at the time of going to print.
