The life of Sky, the Great Dane
It's very important that she gets a home she deserves
Sky is like any other dog, wagging her tail and waiting for a bit of excitement. But really, as far as dogs go, Sky is on a completely different level to other dogs, literally. She’s a Great Dane, a pseudonym for “gentle giant”. Yes, the world is slightly different when you are about a metre tall standing on all fours, far higher than most other dogs on the block, and probably taller than a lot of humans if she stood on two legs!
She is nearly a year old, with a sweet and calm nature. You might think Sky runs around in a massive yard, chasing her shadow and digging holes, but life has been pretty unfair to her. She spends her days with a kind pensioner and although her owner loves her, she is just too much to handle at times. “Sky is a kind-natured dog and I would love to keep her, but she needs more space.
It’s very important that she gets a home she deserves. A home without cruelty and with someone who understands she is different to other dogs, because she is a Great Dane,” says Sky’s current owner. The internet is littered with people trying to capture the essence of these massive companions. Some of the quotes you’ll find sum up these gentle giants as the funny, colourful characters they are.
Here are a couple of quotes that might make you chuckle: “You tell your dog to sit, and he backs up until he finds a chair” and “You have given up on water dishes and you just use the bathtub”.
In a nutshell, Great Danes are sweet, eager-to-please, people-oriented, easy-to-house-train, and respond well to training using positive reinforcement.
Annamarie Koen from the Animal Anti-Cruelty League (AACL) finds Sky to be a very unique Great Dane, with her blue eyes and pink nose.
“Sky is still a young dog and will adapt easily to a loving home. She has good manners and is very placid.” It’s very important to make sure, if you are interested in giving a Great Dane like Sky a home, that you know what you’re getting yourself into. Great Danes need a lot of space.
Even though they make great house dogs, they need a lot of room just to move around. There’s not many things they can’t reach (kitchen counters and dinner tables are no problem), and their tails can easily sweep your coffee table clean.” If you think there is room in your home (and most importantly your heart) for Sky, give Ria a call on 083-795-4794.
