Saving rain water, one drop at a time
Mr Rampersadh said another benefit of his water supply was that he did not have to worry when the municipality had to service water pipes in his suburb.
NEWCASTLE – Jocks Rampersadh has come up with an innovative way to save water.
Making use of the recent rainfalls, Mr Rampersadh uses an electric pump and a water tank not only to water his garden, but also to minimise water usage in his house.

“I came up with the idea after I noticed how much water went to waste when it rained and poured down the roof of the house.”
He connected pipes to a water tank, five taps, an electric pump and the ablution pipeline.
“Because of the drought and the recent hike in the water tariffs, I thought it would be a brilliant way to save water. When it rains I use the water from the tanks, and when it doesn’t, I use municipal water.”
Valves allow Mr Rampersadh to isolate water supply from whichever water system not in use at a specific time.
“I have been very fortunate with the recent rain, and because of the way it has been set up, I am able to help five of my neighbours when they don’t have water.”
Mr Rampersadh said another benefit of his water supply was that he did not have to worry when the municipality had to service water pipes in his suburb. “I always have water on hand, as long as it has rained.”
