Drunken texts a thing of the past, as WhatsApp will soon allow you to delete messages

From drunken texts to tackling data-using chats and groups

Instant messaging service WhatsApp is testing a feature that will allow users to withdraw text messages within five minutes of sending them.

Currently, you can delete messages, but ironically they are only deleted on your phone and not on the phone you sent them to.

Now, in the near future, you will have a 5-minute window in which to delete that text you sent to your boss by mistake…

WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned messaging giant, is testing a “delete for everyone” feature. It is important to note that this is not live yet and only available to certain key beta testers.

Stop data hogs from chowing your precious data cap!

WhatsApp has added a new page in the storage section to provide users a sneak peek into the exact amount of internal memory an ongoing chat with a friend or a group is occupying on their smartphone. This would help users identify groups and chats which are using up vital real estate on the smartphone.

Also identify friends who share too much, thus eating away at your precious data cap!

To access it, go to Settings->Data and Storage usage-> Storage usage and you can see the contacts and groups with the highest data use on your phone.

By tapping on the contact, you can see a breakdown of the space taken up by images, videos and docs, and delete them manually. If they are taking up chunks of hard drive space on your phone, imagine how much of your precious data they chowed.

Currently, you can only access this feature if you are a WhatsApp beta member. You can become a member by signing up with WhatsApp Beta either in the iTunes Store or Play Store.

Hopefully this feature will role out soon to all WhatsApp users.
