Ramakrishna Centre hosts clinic in Ladysmith

All consultations, medication, prescription glasses, lab services and meals were provided free of charge to the Ladysmith community

On Sunday (September 17), the Ramakrishna Centre, Ladysmith Sub-Centre, held its medical camp at Acaciavale Primary School to provide much-needed medical attention to indigent members of the Ladysmith community.

The Ramakrishna Clinic is the medical wing of the Ramakrishna Centre and has been in existence for over 50 years, rendering voluntary medical services to indigent communities of KwaZulu-Natal, regardless of faith and race.

The medical clinic provided specialist and super specialist consultations: general medicine, ENT specialists, orthopaedic surgeons, physicians, gynaecology, oncology, paediatrics, optometry, dentistry, audiology and speech therapy, physiotherapy, holistic therapy, social workers, psychology and HIV VCT.

Additionally, an on-site ultrasound, ECG, a full laboratory service and a comprehensive pharmacy were available.

All patients were also provided with breakfast pies and hot meals after their consultations.

All consultations, medication, prescription glasses, lab services and meals were provided free of charge to the Ladysmith community. Also in attendance was the Aids Healthcare Foundation from Durban.

This record-breaking humanitarian event saw over 40 medical, paramedical and allied services professional staff from Ladysmith, Durban and PMB; and 150 clinic volunteer staff from all walks of life, races and religions coming together for one day for the benefit of the Ladysmith community, with over 485 patients being treated, over 600 consultations and over 600 meals being provided.
