Weather Warning: Disaster Management teams placed on alert across KZN, with heavy rains expected

KZN has suffered serious damage as a result of natural disasters in the past, with houses swept away and lives lost when heavy rains devastated eThekwini last October

KZN MEC for Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has placed her department’s Disaster Management teams on alert across the province, with heavy rains expected to hit the eastern parts of KZN today (May 16).
“Heavy rains, which can cause localised flooding, pose a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians. We therefore urge our Disaster Management teams to pay close attention to routes that are prone to flooding. We also urge motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution,” said Dube-Ncube.

Municipalities have been instructed to be on standby with emergency shelters should the need arise.
