#WackyWednesday: 10 Bizarre pizza toppings to tantalise your tastebuds
While some play it safe with the regular - chicken, onions, mushrooms, tomato and cheese, there are a number of weird, wacky and wonderful toppings that you can try.

Pizza – the traditional Italian dish that’s as versatile as its relative, pasta.
When hunger strikes and the cold weather sets in, there’s nothing as appetising as a cheesy, warm saucy mouthful of your favourite pizza.
While some play it safe with the regular – chicken, onions, mushrooms, tomato and cheese – there are a number of weird, wacky and wonderful toppings that you can try.
Let us know which one is your favourite – to the daring folk, which one you would try?
Take a look at some of our bizarre choices of pizza toppings:
1. Peas

There’s nothing wrong with adding vegetables to your pizza, but wait… peas?
We have to admit this one is a little unusual, but maybe it feels strange because it’s not part of our culture. Most vegetables can be added to a pizza, right?
2. Cold fish
No, it’s not a typo: one of the most popular pizzas in Russia is known as the “mockba”, which contains the following:
- Sardines
- Tuna
- Mackerel
- Salmon
- Onions

3. Crab meat
Crab meat is gourmet in seafood language. However, adding it to a pizza takes it to a whole new level.
Crab would form the primary ingredient in this seafood pizza, and it can be complemented by other toppings such as cheese, tomatoes, chilli and rocket.
Is this a topping you’d like to taste?
4. Mashed potatoes

Some people might think pizza and mash are the perfect partnership, while others may instantly state it was never meant to be. Move over Shepard’s pie, there’s a new pizza on the block!
5. Chocolate
More akin to a giant cookie than a pizza, this topping rejects the traditional cheese and tomato base and instead opts for a generous spread of melted chocolate.
6. Peanuts, bananas, chicken, pineapple and curry powder
If you’ve ever gotten into an argument with someone trying to justify why being pro-pineapple is a good thing, then imagine the challenge you’d have setting out an argument for this crazy combination of flavours.
7. Squid Ink

This one’s for the foodies out there – you’ve had squid ink pasta and squid ink risotto; now it’s time for the squid ink pizza. As you might expect, this pizza is black.

8. Coconut
This certainly sounds appetising on a sweet pizza – chocolate spread, coconut and strawberries – yes please!
9. Banana Curry Pizza
This defies the simple slice of pepperoni. One enterprising chef came up with a combination so bizarre, it might just taste good. He combined bananas and curry, on the same pizza. Say it again after us, bananas and curry on pizza.
10. Cauliflower Crust Pizza

We get the whole gluten free movement and the requirements for certain people to eliminate consuming bleached white flour. But cauliflower? We’re not too sure about this one…
