The taxi drivers apprehended the suspect, before requesting help from security personnel.

Upon arrival, officials were informed of the incident, and contacted SAPS for assistance.

The suspect was arrested, and the child was placed in the custody of her grandmother, before being taken to the police station.

Extreme safety measures were quickly put into place as the school called for a urgent meeting between learners, parents, security companies and taxi drivers.

It was decided a designated area would be cordoned off in the school premises where children would be dropped off and collected by their transport.

At the time, sources also confirmed further safety measures were in the pipeline, and the details thereof would be made known at a later stage.

The suspect appeared in the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court on June 6.

Despite the claims against the suspect, he was approved for bail and has since resumed his position in the community of Paradise.

Residents and school bodies, infuriated at the bail approval, immediately sprung into action and rallied together to get a petition started.

They demanded the suspect be removed from the community, as he was considered a danger to all children in the vicinity.

A source confirmed the petition was completed and handed over to the relevant departments for further action to be taken.

Parents are urged to take precautionary measures when dropping off or collecting their children at school, and to monitor their behaviour on a daily basis.

“Ensure your child knows the importance of not talking to strangers, and to report any suspicious people possibly loitering around their schools in the afternoons.”
