Local talent makes the national music industry dance to his tune
Shrikesh’s passion for music drives him daily, as he believes music is an art that speaks from the heart.

He is a passionate, multi-talented and diverse musician with a keen interest in singing and playing both the piano and keyboard.
Shrikesh Sewnath, whose natural-born talent was nourished from a young age, is putting Newcastle on the map across the country.
He was recently nominated as an award recipient in the Artes Award 2019, by Big M Productions, which will take place at a glittering function on July 20 at Emperors Palace.
Shrikesh says his love for music was nurtured by his talented dad, Rakesh Sewnath.
At the tender age of nine, he had begun playing the keyboard and continued to bloom as a young upcoming musical sensation.
“I played for several bands in KwaZulu-Natal, and my passion for music inspired my dad to form his own band – Shri Sangeeth,” revealed Shrikesh.
While performing in various shows across Gauteng and KZN, Shrikesh used the opportunity of working with the band to support charitable events and raise funds for the physically challenged and the old aged.
Shrikesh moved to Johannesburg to complete his studies at the University of the Witwaterand (Wits), where he encouraged students to join the Wits Hindu Student Society and continued to share his musical knowledge by teaching students to sing Bhajans, play the Harmonium and Tabla.
Shortly after, he was approached by musicians to join renowned Gauteng bands to sing and play the keyboard.
He was then approached by DJ Zuby to sing at various Bhangras held at Monte Casino, Vacca Matta, Club Set, Club Velvet and other famous Bollywood Clubs in Johannesburg.
His singing career grew further after being head-hunted by other promoters in Johannesburg and Durban.
He has shared the stage with famous DJs, such as DJ Dizzy D, Nishal Sarwan and Manic Thor, both from Lotus FM.
He thereafter had the opportunity to perform at Kingsmead Sahara Stadium, and the Vodacom Winter Festival in KZN, with the highlight being chosen to sing at Sun City over the weekend of the Sonu Nigam Concert.
After completing his studies and qualifying as a Chartered Accountant (CA), he started FuSIOn ViBeZ Show Band with a group of musicians, which incorporates different genres of music, such as reggae, pop and jazz, into Bollywood music.
This in turn appealed to the Bollywood market in Johannesburg, and their music has been trending ever since.
His efforts continued towards charity fund raisers by performing at JISWA School, catering for children with severe intellectual disabilities, and holding a concert to raise funds for children with cancer.
Shrikesh’s passion for music drives him daily, as he believes music is an art that speaks from the heart.
As he to continues to grow his music career, the Newcastle Advertiser wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
