Bongumenzi has received a number of awards since the release of the 2018 Grade 12 results.

He was announced among the top achievers by the Minister of Basic Education, Angie Motshekga and was rewarded by the KwaZulu-Natal leadership for his outstanding performance.

Amajuba District, having obtained the first position in KwaZulu-Natal province, made history with all the schools in the Top 10 obtaining more than 90%. A total of 23 schools achieved a percentage rating of between 80% and 89%.

Three schools in the Amajuba District achieved a 100% pass rate.

MEC Dhlomo in his capacity as the district champion for Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS), acknowledged the efforts of all the parties who contributed towards this historic achievement.

“We are proud of what has been achieved by Amajuba District. We know of all the hard work that goes behind the scenes and for that we thank you. You will note that Amajuba District was the only district from KwaZulu-Natal mentioned by Minister Angie Motshekga among the best performing districts in the country. That on its own gives an indication that we made history”, said MEC Dhlomo.

Amajuba District formed partnerships with various stakeholders to execute these awards. Among the stakeholders
who partnered in this initiative were Nedbank, LG-SETA, Allen Gray Foundation, Senzosomusa Projects and Global Fund.

District Mayor, Cllr Dr Musa Ngubane, in his address commended the top achievers for putting the district on the map and challenged the 2019 class to do even better.

“To our best performers, well done! You are destined to make it big, you just didn’t know it. This recognition is surely ndeserved and will give you an opportunity to spread your wings. Remember this is not the end of your academic path – it is the beginning of the new journey. You have made history! Those behind you have a challenge! We hope they will not drop the ball!”

Zama High School kept the guests on their toes with the entertainment they provided, and kept everyone entertained.

The school is known to be among the best schools in the province in terms of the quality of academic results and has also consistently produced the best performers, particularly in music and poetry.
