Your tops and tags can donate a wheelchair for someone in need

Almost every household buys a loaf of bread each day and most households in South Africa consumes fizzy drinks or bottles of milk. Every bread tag and bottle top ends up in the garbage. What if your bottle tops and bread tags could make a difference in someone else’s life?

The Sweethearts Foundation collects tops and tags to be able to donate wheelchairs free of charge for those in need.

The Sweethearts Foundation was established in Johannesburg in 2010 by sisters Jessica and Nadia Herbst. They were inspired by a boy named Sipho who couldn’t attend school due to the lack of a wheelchair. So far, their foundation has distributed more than 10 000 wheelchairs across South Africa. Until last year, they only had the capacity to collect from Gauteng, Western Cape and Eastern Cape. However their reach has expanded and people from Parys can now also donate.

A total of 450kg bottle tops and 50kg of bread tags is needed to donate one wheelchair.

Drop off points in Parys for those who want to donate their tops and tags are at Anything Beautiful in Breë Street, Viva filling station in the industrial area of Parys, as well as at the giant heart at Rollers on R59 at the Parys Golf & Country Estate.
