Maritzburg United coach Fadlu Davids has applauded his side’s supporters for being the wind beneath his team’s wings this season, fuelling them to great performances especially in home games.

The Team of Choice have done well at home this season winning eighth, drawing five and losing two Absa Premiership matches.

Davids said the fans have helped his young side to remain focused even when they encountered tragic situations with the death of teammates. He is hoping for a packed Harry Gwala Stadium again on Saturday afternoon when they play their last match against provincial rivals Golden Arrows.

“This is our final game at the Harry Gwala Stadium and we are hoping our supporters will again come out in their numbers. They are the reason for our success this season, thanks to the wonderful atmosphere they create at the stadium,” said the 37-year-old mentor.

Maritzburg recently lost Luyanda Ntshangase who was struck by lightning during a friendly game in April and Davids hopes it will not affect his players much.

“Of course the players are devastated being the second player we’ve lost in the season. But we want the fans to come out and help us get through in this time of need,” he said.
