Knight Preparatory shows love to Place a Pup
Knight Preparatory School learners collected dog and cat food to donate to Place a Pup, an NPO in Roodepoort.
To end the month of love special, Knights of Kindness showered Place a Pup with valuable gifts.
Knights of Kindness, one of the Grade 7 leadership groups at Knight Preparatory School responsible for community outreach and serving the community at the school, donated dog and cat food to the non-profit organisaton (NPO) in Roodepoort as part of their Valentine’s Day project. They ran an initiative and collected dog and cat food from their families.

Teacher Kirsten Groves explained that they visited the NPO to see how they are running their facility. “We visited and saw what their facility is like. We played with some puppies and then handed over what we collected. We wanted to bless them with something that would actually help them do their work.”

Place a Pup focuses on the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of abandoned, abused, and neglected puppies. The organisation operates without government funding and relies on the generosity of the public for support.

Groves emphasised the importance of learners developing the habit of giving back from an early age. “Developing this mindset early enables young people to make a meaningful contribution to their communities. This has a significant impact, particularly for those seeking funding to sustain their NPOs effectively.”

She explained that they started working with the NPO as they felt the SPCA’s receives most donations. “One of our other teachers found them, and they were doing such good work, rehabilitating. They are a no kill shelter, so they keep the dogs as long as possible, and rehome them and get them back to health because some of them come from abusive situations. We just really felt we wanted to serve in that particular community.”
